Delhi Belly, Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap, 404 - Music Review

Delhi Belly (2011)
Music: Ram Sampath

1. Bhaag D.K.Bose Aandhi Aayi --------------------- 10/10
An official entry to this year's 10/10. Ram Sampath does what he does best: produce some entertaining rock music. There is no room in the song for anyone to take any breath. Probably, the most hectic song after Shankar Mahadevan's Breathless. There is no slow opening, and neither is there lull in between. Pure rock, entertaining and harmonious with catchy and lyrics, and add to it the rush of swearing under the garb of a song.

2. Tere Siva --------------------------------------------------- 6/10
A nice diversion in this funny and fast paced album. Soft, melodious and a hint of yearning makes it interesting enough. It must be mentioned that it is not a path breaking romantic song we have never heard before. Nevertheless, likable after a few repeats.

3. Bedardi Raja (Grind Mix) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6/10
The opening of the song might put off people, and the original track is primarily a folk song with typical lyrics of this genre. The Grind Mix though sounds a great deal better than the original version owing to the modern beats and some sound mixing making it good enough for wedding parties. Worth a try.

Brownie points:

  • Saigal Blues - It never seemed possible Saigal could be relevant today. Excellent rock re-imagination of Saigal's style of singing makes it palatable. Whether it ends up in MP3 players remains a question
  • I Hate You (Like I Love You) - An ode to qawwalis and shayari. A story of love and hate. A reliving of Bappi Lahiri's musical era. Top it up with English vocals. Entertaining? Yes.
Final verdict: Overall, gets a 5/10. Bhaag D.K.Bose Aandhi Aayi is so extremely good that all other songs feel like a disappointment, until you listen to them again. But again, the rest of the tracks are not that great either. Note to Suraj Jagan for Jaa Chudail: Gritty, screeching, harsh voice is not equal to rock or hard rock.

Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap (2011)
Music: Vishal - Shekhar

A pretty short album with only 3 originals. Overall, it is pretty mediocre album, but Amitabh Bachchan has done a great job singing all of his tracks by himself. Sudesh Bhosale must be crying somewhere right now.

1. Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap (Dub Step) ---------- 6/10
In case there was anyone looking for some fresh gangsta tracks, this one is for you. This versions is more techno and tense compared to the original than Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap (a capella) (a capella = with no instrument, so it says it all). Vishal-Shekhar continue to have fun with the Bachchan's and rap music.

2. Haal-E-Dil ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6/10
A soft and smooth soliloquy of a troubled mind and a heart trapped in it's own emotions. Definitely, not a mind-blowing track, however, Amitabh Bachchan well known for his rugged voice, pulling off a melody quite convincingly is it's USP.

3. Main Chandigarh Di Star ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6/10
Typical Sunidhi Chauhan track, meaning more energy and less melody. However, the song sort of gets itself together with it's raw entertaining quality and limiting it's length to a minimum, throwing all the fluff out and leaving only the interesting portion in. Good energy.

404 (2011)
Music: Sameeruddin

The new music director goes on a brave path of slow, soft music that is jazz at times, opera at the other and idle soliloquies on another. Unfortunately none of it seems to work for him. The biggest problem lies where most of the softer songs never take off, leaving a bad taste. The lone instrumental in the album, titled Theme, although sounds good, feels overwhelmingly a rip-off of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises' musical scores.
Fail.
