Shaapit, Lahore, Love, Sex Aur Dhokha - Music Review

After a few weeks of dull music, there is some hope. There were a few good tracks and out of the three albums reviewed, Shaapit stands out.

Shaapit (2010)
Music: Chirantan Bhatt, Aditya Narayan, Nazam Sheraz

The movie is not mainstream, but being a Vikram Bhatt movie it wasn't surprising to find that the music was decent. And by the way, who is Chirantan Bhatt? He is new and coming up with not-so-bad music.

1. Kabhi Na Kabhi To Miloge ----------------------- (9/10)
This is the best song of the movie. Slightly sad and romantic song sung by Aditya Narayan is a welcome surprise, especially after a few really irritating kiddie songs by the little Narayan in Pardes.

2. Kabhi Na Kabhi To Miloge (Rock) ------------------ (7/10)
Remix or Rock version, whatever they want to call it, of the original song is almost identical to it's original version with some rock beats to it. But the kind of song it is, lends itself to being a soft song and does not do as well with the energy of rock music.

3. Chaahata Kitna Tumko Dil ------------------------ (7/10)
Another romantic track with steady beats makes it a good song to listen to and croon. It is not great, so you might want to listen to it more than once.

4. Tere Bina --------------------- (6/10)
This is a sad song and it is decent. The tempo could have been a tad quicker.

5. Shaapit Hua Kya --------------------------- (5/10)
This is a very mediocre song, but deserves some mention for some really ATTEMPT at rock music. Like mentioned in a previous blog, this song is a better attempt at rock music in Bollywood than Rock On!!

3 other not so noteworthy tracks.

Final verdict:
Get tracks 1,2,3 and 4 is up to you.

Lahore (2010)
Music: M.M. Kreem

The movie poster looks awesome, and music by M.M. Kreem raises some hope of good music...but alas!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (2010)
Music: Sneha Khanwalkar

An album made specifically for the movie. Nothing much here either to listen to.

Brownie points:
  • Mohabbat - Bollywood Style might win your heart, but not your MP3 player......especially the 'tanan tan ho gaya' part is adorable.
  • I Can't Hold It is fun too where the cheesy, romantic twittering sounds are mixed as if a DJ would play it

That's all for this week. Have fun!

    6 Movies, 1 Review - Music

Following is the music review of this week. I promise you! If you read through you'll learn nothing new, nothing surprising or earth shattering. But here it is anyways.

6 Movies, 1 Review...........bahut nainsafi hai (Not if the music is crap!)

First things first. Let's get out of the way the most obvious.
    1. Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? -- Absolutely  rejected. No more comments
    2. Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein -- Total reject. Was this supposed to be a Bhojpuri movie?
    3. Trump Card -- Absolutely no respite for music fans. So much for giving it a try.
Now that we are done with omnigusting albums, the other 3 albums are no good either. A song or two from each of the albums can be given a chance. Just go right to the recommended songs from each movie:

    1. Hide & Seek -- Friday Night, Friday Night (Remix) is fun. Gangsta rap with rebellious lyrics can serve to cure a drowsy mood.
    2. Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke -- Agar Hum Tum Ko is a playful, romantic track. It will remind you of Chor Bazari from Love Aaj Kal. If it does not, 100% money back guarantee.
    3. Right Yaa Wrong -- In this almost wrong album, Meri Aashaon Ki is a calm song worth giving a chance. I'll dare and say, Lakhnavi Kabab is OK too.
Brownie point: Maula from Hide & Seek is a really good ATTEMPT at rock music in Bollywood. I would say, a better attempt than Rock On!! But the song really sucks.

6 albums, 37 tracks and only 3 decent songs. Deserves just 1 review.

    One Two Ka 20

In continuation to my previous blog “All Out At 40”, here are top 10 reasons why T20s will rule:

    1. Us spectators, selfish me:
In a T20 match, there is so much going on; the game itself, the cheerleaders, the fireworks, the celebrities. It is like a carnival.

    2. Fair game:
The game is more fair for both the batsmen and the bowlers. Bowlers savor their every single dot ball, batsmen savor their shots, and spectators get to see an intense contest that doesn't last too long to leave the Television set (Are advertisers reading this??)

    3. Bowler friendly:
For bowlers, although it may appear to be more brutal, it actually will not be. They have to bowl only 4 overs at the maximum per match. Bowler trauma reduced from 10 overs to 4 overs. Each dot ball will be treasured. It will worth saving about 3 runs per dot ball. In fact, I would recommend, the bowling statistics to be represented differently in T20s. Instead of
    Overs-Maidens-Runs-Wickets, it should read,
    Balls bowled-Dot balls-Runs-Wickets

    4. Batsman friendly:
Similarly for batsmen, although it appears to be demanding, it actually makes them bat for a maximum of 20 overs. And on an average, for the really good batsmen in T20s, they would (or rather afford to) hog the crease for about a maximum of 10 overs. Currently, batsmen play for about 10 overs in ODIs easily, and more. Sachin Tendulkar played all 50 overs without a runner. Go figure!!

    5. Lesser player fatigue:
We will see lesser player injuries due to shorter duration of the game. Current international cricket schedule is extremely strenuous, leaving players injured every other series. Australia's tour of India in 2009 made more headlines due to player injuries than anything else. We'll see lesser and lesser high profile players retiring from the mainstream, if T20s become mainstream

    6. Cricket Argentina:
Creates a level playing field. Any team that can get hold of themselves in a given match has a chance to win. Takes out the high level of skill needed that second rung teams take decades of years to build upon. Didn't we see Netherlands beat England in a T20? Will we see Argentina's team in world cricket?

    7. Go Mumbai Indians!
T20 promises to bring in club culture into cricket, thus reducing international cricket and increasing domestic leagues all over. This will allow more player exchanges between local and international clubs, thus giving local players a chance to act big than they ever would, in current international cricket arena. This also implies more money for players and organizers, and greater exciting tournaments for us fans, like the Champions league, IPL and the like.

    8. World Cup:
World Cup wouldn't have meant so much more!

    9. Cricket? What?
Cricket will gain more respect and recognition than ever before. Cricket will spread to nations other than the Commonwealth countries. Isn't T20 cricket a part of forthcoming Olympics?

    10. Tests - The Burning Issue:
T20s and Test cricket have a stark difference in their formats compared to Tests and ODIs. This highly increases the possibility that Test cricket will survive due to sheer contrast.

Karthik Calling Karthik, Teen Patti, Prem Kaa Game - Music

Songs to get in your musak player, songs to skip and some commentary

    Karthik Calling Karthik (2010)
Music: Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy

    1. Hey Ya! ---------------- 10/10
Best song of the movie. Romantic, but peppy and modern. Representative of the current trend where a song begins with English lyrics passing it on to Hindi lyrics smoothly. Always be on the lookout for Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Clinton Cerejo pairing up. They have come up with cool songs. Rock On!!, Wake up Sid!....and now Karthik Calling Karthik

    2. Uff Teri Adaa --------------------  8/10
Another party theme song from Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The change of beat in the song is fun, feels like a car slowing down on applying brakes.

    3. Jaane Ye Kya Hua ---------------------- 8/10
Yet another soft and crisp romantic track by none other than KK

    4. Kaisi Hai Yeh Udaasi -------------------- 6/10
Sad but not too bad. For Kailash Kher fans

    5. Karthik Calling Karthik ---------------------- 6/10
Different, techno, but fails to make the cut. Caralisa Monteiro lends a nice voice

    6. Karthik 2.0 ----------------------- 5/10
Energetic, but not noteworthy. It won't be remembered

    7. Uff Teri Adaa (Remix) ------------------ 5/10
Really trashy remix. The fact that it is a remix of one of the better songs from the movie is it's only saving grace

    8. Hey Ya! (Remix) -------------------- 5/10
Remixed Hey Ya! The original soundtrack is so much better than this

    9. Karthik Calling Karthik Theme Remix ----------------------- 5/10
Not good just like it's original track

    Anything worthwhile?
    Yes. Numbers 1, 2 and 3

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Teen Patti (2010)
    Music: Salim - Sulaiman

Salim - Sulaiman are coming up with very modern, 'multiplex-culture' music nowadays. This album smacks of the style of music score for Pyaar Impossible by them. Decent attempt in this movie, but overall fail to impress.

    1. Neeyat Kharab Hai (Remix) ----------------- 8/10
One of the rare instances when the remix version of a song is actually better than the actual song. The remix is more techno and pacy compared to original track. Pleasantly good remix. Not a stupid remix that tests the bass of your speakers.

    2. Neeyat Kharab Hai ------------------------  7/10
The original track. Might be good to ears to some than the remix

    3. Intezar Mein Chupa Kahi --------------- 7/10
Just good enough. But very borderline

    4.  5. Life Is A Game (English and Hindi versions) ------------------- 6/10
Not bad of an attempt. Nice start to the song and good beats, but fails to carry on the momentum

    6. Teen Patti Ke Gulam  --------------------- 6/10
Ditto as 'Life Is A Game'. Also, the lyrics make the song very situation specific in the movie

    3 more passable tracks

    What say?
Get Number 1, Numbers 2, 3 is up to you

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Prem Kaa Game (2010)
    Music: Raju Singh............yes Raju Who?

First of all, this is a movie that reached the senses of a very few movie buffs. The cast is all made up of low profile actors. But anyways back to the music:
    • The music is not TERRIBLE as one would think
    • But again most of the songs are just about average. Such songs will get some audience only if they were in some major release.
    • Overall, a nothing-you-would-miss kind of album
    Brownie points:
    • Khan Ka Gyaan by Salman Khan is funny to listen to
    • Tum Hi Mere is a decent song, if you are a Javed Ali fan
