Double Dhamaal, Bol, Bin Bulaye Baraati - Music Review

Double Dhamaal (2011)
Music: Anand Raj Anand

Welcome to more goofdom, more dhamaal. When we are talking about funny and entertaining movies, who better than Anand Raj Anand to lend his style of live-in-the-moment music. Most songs are fun to listen, although they are not built to last longer, that includes:

  • Chill Maro - Mika Singh singing to his strength to some good beats and a nice background theme. His cavalier style fits perfectly in this forget and enjoy yourself message party track. The opening theme sounds very much like Hare Krishna Hare Ram from Bhool Bhulaiyaa
  • Chal Kudiye - Another track that is pure fun and no long lasting melody. The rap portion of the music also give the track a jocular but gangsta appeal.
That's all. Oye Oye in this album does a terrible job of resurrecting the wildly popular Tirchi Topiwale from Tridev.

Bol (2011)
Music: Atif Aslam, Shoaib Mansoor, Sajjad Ali, Ahmed Jahanzeb

If you are into Atif Aslam's musical style, and don't mind listening to generic, but good tracks; this album is worth listening to. Don't expect to blown away. It is made up of many likable songs, but fails to break into the awesome music territory.

1. Kaho - Aaj Bol Do ------------------------------------- 6/10
A pleasant R&B track from Atif which starts out almost like Socha Hai from Rock On!!. No one will be blown away, but neither be bored. Also the overall tune has a likeness to Escape by Enrique Iglesias.

2. Mumkin Hai -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6/10
Another pleasant track, that is soft and melodious. Again, will not bore you but will be forgotten.

3. Hona Tha Pyar ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6/10
A typical romantic track from Atif Aslam. Totally for Atif fans.

4. Dil Janiya ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5/10
The tune, beats and lyrics are charming, but the baritone like voice of the female singer, Hadiqa Kiyani, might put someone off.

Final verdict: Overall, gets a 5/10. Has many nice tracks.

Bin Bulaye Baraati (2011)
Music: Anand Raj Anand

It is common knowledge by now that Anand Raj Anand is that fringe music director, who will not produce memorable music, but knows how to produce foot-tapping music. And in that he manages to give us a new item number.
  • Shalu - Move over Sheila, move over Munni; here comes Shalu. If you liked the previous tracks involving these ladies, there is every reason to like this one.
Chill Maro - Double Dhamaal Chal Kudiye - Double Dhamaal Kaho - Aaj Bol Do - Bol Mumkin Hai - Bol Hona Tha Pyar - Bol Dil Janiya - Bol Shalu - Bin Bulaye Baraati

Shutout = Total flip out

A lighter take on what happened in Vancouver on June 15, 2011 following Vancouver Canucks' shutout loss to Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup final. Although what happened is despicable, there have been some absolutely hilarious photographs that have hit the internet. Combining the best from many sources.

P.S This is not meant to be an offence to any Vancouverite, British Columbian, Canadian or any Canucks fans. This is meant just for laughs.

Bheja Fry 2, Always Kabhi Kabhi, Bhindi Baazaar Inc. - Music Review

Bheja Fry 2 (2011)
Music: Ishq Bector, Sneha Khanwalkar, Sagar Desai

Nutty movie, crazy plot with a dorky person. If the music of the movie did not reflect that, then it would be surprising. But no surprises to be found here. All the songs without exception are funny with goofy lyrics. They are pretty good in the context of the movie, just not so good in general. Although, O Rahi stands out for it's creative freshness.
1. O Rahi --------------------------------------------------------- 7/10
One of the best retro musical recreation of late. Sure there have been some songs of this sort, but this one completely mimics the style of music of the 60s. The video and musical style will completely remind you of singing legends Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and the likes. Add to it a fun retro party trumpet theme music and fun lyrics.

Brownie points:
  • Ishq Da Keeda - Does a good job of blending Indian classical music and sarcastic lyrics
  • We Go Crazy, We Go Crazy (Remix) - Good beats and tone making the goofdom foot-tapping

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011)
Music: Aashish Rego, Shree D, Pritam

1. Jaane Kyon (Soul Version) --------------------------- 7/10
2. Jaane Kyon (Sufi Version) ---------------------------- 7/10
A pretty smooth and soft romantic. Nothing dramatic or path-breaking, but just a standard well composed romantic track. A typical Pritam track and almost sounds like an extended track from Kucch Luv Jaisaa. The lyrics are intelligent and keeps you hooked. Both the versions are almost identical. Naresh Iyer and Shafqat Amanat Ali are both great singers and certainly rising up fast, but both of them lack the punch KK packs in such songs.

3. Always Kabhi Kabhi ------------------------------------ 6/10
A pretty generic R&B romantic track that will remind one of college romances. Simple and likable, but also passable.

Brownie point:
  • School Ke Din - This will remind you of school days. Perfect song for school farewell events and send-off parties.
Final verdict: Very generic album overall, nothing too bad or extremely good either. Get 1 above, 2 can be given a try.

Bhindi Baazaar Inc. (2011)
Music: Sandeep - Surya

1. Aa Ja Re Piya --------------------------------------------- 6/10
A pretty nice Indian classical based romantic track. Fans of musical style of Roop Kumar Rathod, Ismail Darbar will likely enjoy it, although these singers are not involved in this track in any way. Certainly worth a shot for these fans.

2. Akkad Bakkad --------------------------------------------- 5/10
Although overall it is a pretty bad track, this tracks blends a number of elements pretty well: Wry humor, 80s R.D. Burman style action-suspense movie theme, and the gritty voice of Suraj Jagan. The song does possess some entertainment value.
O Rahi - Bheja Fry 2 Ishq Da Keeda - Bheja Fry 2 We Go Crazy - Bheja Fry 2 We Go Crazy (Remix) - Bheja Fry 2 Jaane Kyon (Soul Version) - Always Kabhi Kabhi Jaane Kyon (Sufi Version) - Always Kabhi Kabhi Always Kabhi Kabhi - Always Kabhi Kabhi School Ke Din - Always Kabhi Kabhi Aa Ja Re Piya - Bhindi Baazaar Inc. Love U... Mr. Kalakaar!, Shaitan, Love Express, Kashmakash - Music Review

Love U... Mr. Kalakaar! (2011)
Music: Sandesh Shandilya

A very simple and unassuming album. The songs are really easy going and will make for a calm and romantic background music. None of the songs try really hard to be great, a typical Sandesh Shandilya feature.

1. Sarphira Sa Hai Dil -------------------------------------- 7/10
This is the best of the average. A simple, soft romantic number by the leading pair of playback singers: Neeraj Shridhar and Shreya Ghoshal. This song reminds us how easy going and pleasant romantic tracks could be.

Brownie points:

  • Tera Intezaar - Another classical (not Indian classical) Bollywood romantic track. Very plain and straightforward, but not too bad to be ignored altogether
  • Kahin Se Chali Aa - Mohit Chauhan fans have something more to add to their collection. A little slower in tempo than the rest, but more of a soft melody. For melody lovers.
Final verdict: Get track 1 above, otherwise an album that will be easily forgotten, but does not deserve harsh criticism.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shaitan (2011)
Music: Prashant Pillai, Amar Mohile, Ranjit Barot, Anupam Roy, Laxmikant Kudalkar, Pyarelal

A pretty unconventional and techno album, containing trance and hard rock instrumentals. Also, the number of instrumentals is overwhelming.  There are no standard songs to be found here. Only, let me stress, only if you have an ear for techno, hard rock music, you could go for these:

  1. Josh - Techno rap. Loses steam in the steam in the later half
  2. Fareeda - Grunge rock by Suraj Jagan
  3. Unleashed (Music) - The first of the hard rock from Bollywood. This is advertised as an instrumental, except if you can figure out the super hoarse whispering.
  4. Outro (Music) - A very short but impressive techno rock instrumental.

Final verdict: Not great but hard rock and techno.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Love Express (2011)
Music: Jaidev Kumar

A pretty unexpected album. With Love Express as the movie title, more peppy romantic tracks were expected, but contains most songs that are either Indian classical, ghazals and folklike. Nothing wrong with it, although the breadth of audience would be limited. Overall, a pretty forgettable album with this exception:

  • Mohe Machli Tum Neer (Traditional Lyrics) - If you are melancholy-ghazals fan, this one is good.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kashmakash (2011)
Music: Raja Narayan Deb, Sanjoy Das

Indian classical musical fans would love it. It is hard to determine for certain if the music has Bengali overtones or not, for not having exposed to such music, but being a movie based on Ravindranath Tagore's novel, it would not be a surprise. Indian classical fans could check these out:
  • Manwa - A melodious Shreya Ghoshal. Playful and joyous
  • Teri Seemanyen - Another melody by the legendary Shreya Ghoshal
  • Khoya Kya - A sorrowful track bringing Karuna ras to the fore
  • Nau Meri - Ditto as Khoya Kya. Hariharan excels in both.
Sarphira Sa Hai Dil - Love U... Mr. Kalakaar! Tera Intezaar - Love U... Mr. Kalakaar! Kahin Se Chali Aa - Love U... Mr. Kalakaar! Josh - Shaitan Fareeda - Shaitan Unleashed (Music) - Shaitan Outro (Music) - Shaitan Mohe Machli Tum Neer (Traditional Lyrics) - Love Express Manwa - Kashmakash Teri Seemanyen - Kashmakash Khoya Kya - Kashmakash Nau Meri - Kashmakash
